So apparently I haven't posted anything in a while.
Time has escaped from me, that's for sure.
So I thought I'd give a little update as to where I'm at right now in my writing/revising process, since that's what this blog is supposed to be about, am I right?
So revising. To be honest, I haven't been doing a whole lot of revising lately. I just haven't had time - which is exactly why I haven't had a blog post in a while. But that's no excuse - there's always time, I just need to find ways to be creative about it.
I am currently in the hunt for some critique partners. Now I've done this before - send the first few pages to someone else and vice versa to see if you like each other's work and can help each other become a better write. To give the short version of what happened with draft one of my Arthur story, I realized (with some kindly worded remarks) that my story wasn't very good.
But do you know what was great? They told me what they didn't like. So I took their feedback and began my revising process (which, as I've mentioned over and over again, is practically a re-write).
So I sent out my BRAND NEW beginning for this story and guess what? The few people that have read it, have actually liked it! Like, I think that maybe, just maybe, I could make this work.
You have no idea, this is super encouraging. It can be RUHL intimidating letting someone else read something that you've written and I'm pretty sure I told myself over and over again as I was about to his that 'send' button that my story was complete garbage. And sometimes I still think that. So hearing mostly positive feedback is GREAT and really encouraging to keep plowing through with it.
So I'm still plowing through. I'm about halfway done with this rewrite. But what sucks is that as soon as I'm done, I'm still not done. It will need AT LEAST two more revisions. At least. Gah.
I found all my CP's so far on Susan Dennard's website here.
So writing. For those of you who are actually reading this, you're probably aware of my little serial that I've started called Pigrann. I haven't done a whole lot of writing for this beyond what's already on here, but I have done quite a bit of plotting and planning which (for me) is necessary if I'm posting it before I get to an actual ending. I don't want the plot to fizzle out or start to not make any sense. That would be bad.
I'm also working on a few short story ideas. I recently subscribed to Sarah Selecky's writing prompts and they can really get that writing spark started. I highly recommend.
As for brainstorming. There's a story in my head that just won't leave. So I think once I'm done revising this stupid book (I'm sorry, Arthur. I'm sure once you're done, I'll no longer think you're stupid. Or your sequels.), I'm going to write this one. The whole story is already swarming in my head - all I've got to do is write the thing. And I REALLY REALLY want to. :)
I'll write more about that as I get to it. Thanks for reading! And I can already tell you that there WILL NOT be a new chapter in Pigrann in two weeks as that will be the day before I take the Foreign Service Officer Exam which I may or may not pass, so I'll be studying.
But I'll be back again shortly after!!!
