My Journey Update 2 - October 2015

For those of you who are Facebook friends with me (which is probably all of you - thanks for reading guys, you're the best), you'll probably know that I just finished revising Arthur 1 last week...

YAH!!!!!

It was probably the best and worst feeling in the world.

The Best
-Sense of satisfaction actually finishing something
-Knowing that I've made something better out of something that was awful
-Lying to myself that I never have to look at it again

The Worst
-Knowing that it's still not good enough to attempt to publish (should I choose to someday)
-Seeing the HUGE GAPING plot holes and not knowing how to fix them
-Figuring out how to fix my plot holes, only to realize that will involve a whole other set of revisions and I can't imagine doing that all over again

So yes, I've got (at least) another set of revisions ahead of me, but I've laid my foundations and now I'm ready to build the house. Or write a better book if you're not feeling the metaphor. Here are some things I already know I need to fix:
-PLOT HOLES - I've got a giant one glaring at me in the eye
-Character motivations - why do my characters, especially the 'villains,' do what they do?
-Add details, details, details -  especially sensory items like smell, touch
-Kill some darlings (a writing term for deleting chunks of story that you might like, but don't serve any purpose to the plot)

I'm not even working on it right now, and I'm already overwhelmed.

So here's the plan: I'm going to do MINOR revisions by December 31st. Then I'm going to make some people read it (I already have wrangled a couple of people into it, but if you're interested, let me know and I'll *consider* it). Then I'll revise again. And again. And probably again.

Doesn't it just sound awful? Why did I think this was a good hobby? Clearly I am not right in the head.

But most of you knew that already.

In the meantime, while those unfortunate souls read my dribble, I've got more stories to tell!!

Stephen King once said, "Sometimes stories cry out to be told in such loud voices that you write them just to shut them up."

That's super true for me. Right now, I've got one in particular that is begging to be written. However, I am trying to relax a little and not spend all of my free time writing, but we'll see how long I can resist its allure. I'll tell you all about it as I get to it, but for now, here's it's super boring Pinterest Board that only has characters on it.

Also, I'm going to dive into some reading. I've been craving some chick lit lately (which doesn't happen very often), so let me know if you have any recommendations!! Check out my Goodreads page to see what I've been reading/would like to read/currently reading.

I'm not sure how to end this update, so I'm just going to tell you how precious Freya-boo is.
